Latest Furniture Rescue

Take a look at this table I picked up at the Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. It looks like it’s been through a lot, but the lines on it are to-die-for. It just looks graceful with it’s naturally oxidized ornate metal screen doors and the gorgeous decorative handle hardware! I knew it was a project I wanted to tackle.

You can see that it has some damage, but it was primarily limited to the leather inserts. After I ripped them off, and gave it a quick sanding, the hardest part was deciding on what color to paint it. Chalk paint was in this baby’s future for sure. I considered doing a print transfer on it and using some french typography or a stamp of some kind, but ultimately decided against that. I thought that adding too much to it would take away from how gorgeous of a piece it is on it’s own. So to get started, I removed all of the hardware.

Next step … decide on the color of chalk paint. I had a hard time choosing between CeCe Caldwell’s Vintage White, Vermont Slate, or a mix of the two to make a soft grey. I went with Vermont Slate and couldn’t be happier with the results. {I get my chalk paint from the Twice as Nice store in Kirkwood thru Maria Price Designs.} Once I had it painted, it was time to use the Clear Wax. You can see in this picture how the wax darkens the dried paint color.
