If you are looking for a quilting class for beginners, I can’t say enough about the free Craftsy Block of the Month series. I’m so excited to share my quilt top from this class with you guys. The one that I did is from the 2012 class with Amy Gibson. I decided to use Christmas fabrics last year and it didn’t quite get finished before Christmas so I put it away for a while … okay, a looonnng time!
I came across it a couple of weeks ago and decided to see if I could get it done for this Christmas instead. Now that I have my new Baby Lock Unity sewing machine, I have NO EXCUSE!
I am loving they way it is turning out. I am nervous to quilt it because I’m afraid of messing it up.
If you are thinking of making a quilt for the first time, I highly recommend taking the free Craftsy Block of the Month classes. I’m not sure if you can still sign up for past years, but definitely try one! The 2012 class that Amy Gibson taught was so great because she didn’t assume that you knew anything about quilting to start with, and it truly is a great quilting projects for beginners.
A sampler quilt isn’t really my style – something that has a different shape or ‘block’ in each square, so I wasn’t really sure if I would even finish it. I’m so glad I did though. I think the Christmas fabrics work well with a sampler style quilt, simply because I think it feels more ‘homey’. What more could you want at Christmas time than homey?
The fabrics that I used were the by Riley Blake, called Alpine Wonderland. Such sweet and pretty patterns in this collection. They just reminded me of my childhood and the colors and toys that were around then. You really can’t go wrong with any Riley Blake Christmas pattern collection, in my mind!
Hope to post some better pictures soon – once I finish machine quilting it 😉
